This is exactly what I needed to hear right now. I have found that there are days when I pick up my Bible and I just feel uncomfortable and uninterested in reading it. Thank you for honestly explaining why.

In reply to <a href="https://www.cordeo.org.uk/i-dont-feel-like-reading-my-bible/comment-page-1/#comment-20428">MrsG</a>.

In an ideal world we would all be well fed at church and at home! I understand how challenging it can feel when things are not that way. I would suggest combining personal quiet time with connecting with others to share biblically - "fellowship feeding" doesn't have to be in the context of preaching from the pulpit. Ron's article on Bible reading in the resources section is well worth a read on this subject.

Thank you!
May I humbly ask slightly going off topic but very much linked in my own heart and life how you think personal quite time can be affected by potentially repetitive teaching from church and therefore not feeling nourished in your church body and not encouraged corporately to read and apply Gods word to your life daily?

Thank you Peter, this made me think about my conversations with God. When I pray I often feel a wonderful sense of excitement about being able to talk to God, knowing that he listens and knows my every thought. Reading your views here made me realise that the same excitement can come from Listening to God as well as talking to him!! Listening to the words he gave us! Off to read, with a skip in my heart :)

I wonder sometimes, when we sit down to read our Bibles, gritting our teeth and vowing to "be disciplined", whether God feels like He did in the days of Malachi, where He says, "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you, " says the Lord Almighty. It breaks my heart to know that this is exactly what I did for literally decades. I really appreciated what you shared about taking the condition of our heart seriously and being honest with God and telling Him about our lack of desire to read the Bible. Like your experience with your wife, when we begin to see God's beauty, it captures us, and we open the Bible with joy, looking forward to communing with Him!

Thanks for this, Peter. Truly helpful advice, both for myself and to pass on to others. How amazing that as we tell our Father that we aren't all that captivated by Him, He points us to where His unfailing love for us was demonstrated once and for all... on the cross of the Son. Who doesn't want to hear from a God like that?
