Thanks, Ron. Your post added depth to some things I've been pondering myself of late. Having returned to an academic setting at an age when I SHOULD be thinking about retirement :) I have been considering the question of whether learning for learning's sake is worthwhile. The experience also exposes people, like those in Jesus' day, whose great learning profits them nothing because they are disconnected from the One who is ultimate truth and knowledge. I've come to the conclusion that knowing "stuff" apart from knowing God really lacks substance. However, when we gain knowledge---about anything---in the context of relationship with Him, it is an entirely different and growth-producing experience. Your insights about the use of knowledge to fuel moral distortions was really helpful. My heart breaks often when I see people who are so intelligent making choices which cause so much harm and pain. But as you point out, this occurs when a person is avoiding an unwanted truth---or ultimately, an unwanted God. Thanks again. Really appreciated your insights.
