I love the example we have in David in the way he talks to the Lord in the Psalms during all different kinds of pain, suffering, and fear in his life. He pours his heart out, at times in all its ugliness, and yet he continually affirms the Lord's love and care in His life. I'm reminded also of a couple of verses from Isaiah.

Isaiah 54:10:

"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love will not be shaken, nor will my covenant of peace be removed," says the Lord who has compassion on you.

Isaiah 49:15

"Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has born. Though she may forget, I will not forget you!"

How true it is that God never abandons us, even when we are walking through the dark night of the soul. I'm so thankful for His love!
